The state had witnessed massive protests by Lord Ayyappa devotees opposing the entry of girls and women of menstrual age into the Sabarimala temple since the Kerala government decided to implement a Supreme Court order permitting women of all age groups into the shrine.

Kerala had witnessed massive protests by Lord Ayyappa devotees opposing the entry of girls and women of menstrual age into the Sabarimala temple since the CPI(M)-LDF government decided to implement the Sept 28 apex court order allowing women of all age groups to enter the sabarimala lord ayyappa shrne.

He said that the doors to the shrine will remain open till October 22. The district collector also added that Section 144 will be imposed at four places, including Nilakkal, Pamba and Sannidhanam tomorrow (Thursday), in wake of the protests by devotees.

The proposed wall was suggested at a meeting called by the Kerala government in the backdrop of frenzied protests by right-wing parties and a section of devotees over the states decision to implement the September 28 apex court order, allowing women of all ages In to Sabarimala.

After a series of intense protests by thousands of devotees and supporters of various right wing outfits in the last few days and the government's decision to implement the top Sabarimala Temple Opening dates court's order, the BJP's state president PS Sreedharan Pillai had yesterday warned of a bigger agitation if the government failed to resolve the issue in the next 24 hours.

By opposing the Supreme Court verdict—as well as Pinarayi Vijayan , Kerala's chief minister from the Communist Party of India (Marxist)—the BJP is said to be positioning itself as a defender of religion and representative of larger factions of Indian society in the run-up to 2019 parliament elections.

The unprecedented security arrangements have been made in the backdrop of protests by devotees and Hindu outfits from October 17-22 opposing the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government's decision to implement the landmark Supreme Court verdict permitting women of all age groups to offer prayers at the hill shrine.

Lakhs of women from across Kerala are expected to form a 620 km state sponsored 'Women's Wall Tuesday to uphold gender equality and rennaisance values, in the backdrop of frenzied protests in Sabarimala after the ruling LDF decided to implement the Supreme Court verdict, allowing all women to pray at the Ayyappa shrine.

As for the Committee, they have said that they were only concerned with the facilities for the pilgrims and was in no way concerned with the issue of women and such decisions have to be taken by the Travancore Devasom Board (custodian of the Sabarimala temple) and the police.
